i think one of the best approaches to ai in classrooms debate is to get rid of bullshit work generative ai can do and just write assignments that can't be answered well w/ chatgpt but unfortunately quite a lot of school is built on bullshit work. also to be more forgiving generally
#june.txt#i don't mean like timed handwritten assignments i just mean like#assignments that require synthesis of information and personal analysis in a way that chatgpt isn't very good at#and then it's like. well if someone uses chatgpt they just won't do well you don't need to try and prove they're 'cheating'#also this is humanities student perspective idk what makes sense in other disciplines

last week in dnd we had a fight with the big bad guy, who thinks that my character is on his side as she actively orchestrates his downfall, and his wife. i was about to use my classic antagonize spell so he fought his wife instead of my party members, but then i was like "wait that's like. bad. i don't like that, that's his wife" and my friends were like "sam it's dnd literally nobody thinks like that but you" but idc i still thought it was wrong to make this guy hit his wife. and so instead i threw a potion of aqueous form at the wife, rolled a nat 20, turned her into water, rolled another nat 20 so i wasn't detected doing this, and then had the boss guy pointlessly fight the water so my party members could get out of combat unscathed (this was always the plan: let him escape after tricking him into believing that the attack was orchestrated by the parliament he's been colluding with, so he will then turn on them and basically commit political suicide). my character then stepped out of her nat 20 stealth condition and helped the boss and his eventually not-water wife get away from the scene, reassuring him that my character was still on his side and everything would be okay. according to my group members, this is not how people usually play dungeons and dragons. sounds like a skill issue
#i didn't even think this one was that bad...#i've been called machiavellian at the table before and ngl i kind of enjoy my friends looking at me with horror about it#the plan for this entire attack/event was handwritten by me and was three pages long#assigning everyone a position and meticulously giving cues for the individual pieces so things would have the lowest chance of failing#had some bumps in the road but it worked pretty well#hopefully the political consequences are dire bc killing this guy isn't going to fix the systemic problem he represents#also i'd rather see him suffer publicly than just like. get hit by a sword really hard#all while he thinks i'm his trusted ally :)#what he deserves for framing my character as scapegoat at the start of the campaign. also for being an evil colonial business mogul

i started doing climate data transcription on Zooniverse today & it's nice. i feel a certain kinship with these 1950s weather observatory scientists who were trying to use up their stack of preprinted-for-the-1940s observation sheets & had to keep crossing out the "4" in the year field. they were doing it until at least 1952
#personal#putting my years of experience deciphering handwritten numbers to good use lmao#it's also nice because i'm like. oh hello sense of purpose. nice to see you again#i think contributing to climate research in some way is my Thing I'm Supposed to be Doing#like i don't quite. know how to explain that. the subject makes it a little tricky because i don't want people to think i mean#'i think people have some sort of divinely-ordained purpose and this is mine' or#'i feel obligated to do this' or 'i feel everyone has a moral imperative to do this and i'm judging everyone for doing other things'#(selfish: this man found time to build a birdhouse while jonbenet ramsey's murder is still unsolved)#it's more just like. if i go to long without contributing to this or actively working towards that. it feels like it's bad for me#i can Feel the effect on my mental health. like those little arrows in Don't Starve that show you which way your sanity meter is moving#what am i doing!!! i should be doing my thing!!!#Past Me did not make the best university choices for this but that's ok he had a lot of other shit to worry about#& math isn't a bad starting point. i'll find my way over into data science or meteorology or something somehow#anyway. waiting with bated breath to see when the scientists finally get updated forms#the ones to transcribe are assigned randomly so i can't intentionally go looking

i'm not following your cult au fic (i'm sure it's fab just not my cup of tea!) so it's incredibly funny to me that you have posted a link to chapter 106 with the comment "it begins". ma'am i think it began a while ago
Look, when I was younger I once started a story that got to about 5k and was probably 90% describing characters with no accompanying action or even particularly deep insight. I'm a model of brevity now compared to that!
#writing#asks#feedback#ink post#this was for a school assignment and the teacher definitely expected like. 2 handwritten pages#i don't think i ever turned it in bc it wasn't 'done' (ie: a full novel)#the number of assignments in her class specifically i extrapolated to way way WAY longer and more involved versions#bc i honestly thought that was what i was supposed to do#maybe should have thrown up some red flags for everyone#but she did have other probably more dangerous red flags she alerted my parents to instead#(i used to drink so much water in class she worried i was diabetic which is obvs more important. i was in fact just weird)

Handwritten assignments hold great authenticity and charm for Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) students in this digital era. These assignments are a crucial part of the academic evaluation process and play a significant role in showing student’s understanding of the subject. Although typing assignments are convenient, handwritten assignments are mandatory in IGNOU for personal touch and commitment to learning. However, writing a flawless IGNOU handwritten assignment can be a daunting task. It can be mastered if you use the right approach. If your assignment is well-prepared, it shows your effort and dedication. Here are 10 practical tips to ensure your assignment stands out and helps you receive high grades.
1. Understand the IGNOU Guidelines: It is vital to review the assignment guidelines thoroughly before initiating the assignment. Every course has particular instructions like format, word count, and submission deadlines. If you ignore these guidelines then there can be mistakes even if your assignment is well-written. I have no trust in cengage now because last week I got a problem wrong, could not figure out why, then asked my professor who said I calculated everything correctly and gave me back the point... So now every time I get someone wrong and can't figure out why I just think it's cengage fucking with me again...
#They also are very particular about how you enter answers#BUT they won't always tell you how they want you to put in the answer#So you will get it wrong even though the number you got IS the answer#God I hate online homework... I would take scanning in handwritten hw assignments to this...

isn't it interesting how infrequently covid comes up in discussions about the current generation of college students' work habits? pretty much everyone in the current crop of undergraduates was in high school during the quarantine and i can think of few things that would be as academically disillusioning in your formative years and set you up worse to continue your education.
you get ripped out of school at a critical point in your life because hundreds of thousands of people are dying all over the planet, are then left to try and tread water in your studies with the absolute bare minimum structural support, and are then subsequently forced to return with almost nothing to bridge that gap and the underlying knowledge that it actually may not even be safe for you to be attending class. and yet you're expected to just proceed as normal! and thats on top of all of the ways being a high schooler is already brutal and miserable. it is hard to imagine that would not have a significant
the post that prompted me to make this was going on an absolute tirade calling these kids stupid and lazy and accusing them of rotting their own brains with tiktok. they said one kid should be beaten with a bat. obviously i don't think that's an actionable threat im not trying to say theyre genuinely advocating violence against chatgpt users. but what they were genuinely advocating for was a return to analog schooling; no computers are phones in classes, all assignments handwritten. i'm against this for a myriad of accessibility reasons, but moreso than that, i just can not take any proposed solutions in good faith from people who are writing about the people they purportedly want to help with that much spite. i don't believe you actually want to empower people to learn i think you want to punish people for not learning and those are two completely different things.
man. school is fucking hard and like it or not a lot of people ARE there because they need to become employable, not because they want to be doing this. and it's not their fault things are set up in a way that often necessitates taking this path for even a modicum of financial security. i'm not really interested in any discussions of higher ed that are not even capable of extending an ounce of sympathy to those students too.

husband!nanami who was prepared for valentines day one month ahead. everything was planned considerately and perfectly. he has the whole day organised, from waking up to bedtime.
so, when you told him you were assigned a mission on valentines day, it was like looking at a wet puppy. he tries to conceal his disappointment, saying he understands, but deep down you know he’ll be sulking all week. it’s not like he created a whole itinerary for the day or nothing..
on february 14th, regardless of the whole missions shenanigans though, he still made the most out of treating you like royalty which means at least he got to tick some stuff off his list.
breakfast in bed? check. waking you up by kissing and hugging you? check. shower together and get ready for the day? triple check.
you make your way to the door, the wet puppy following your every step. he stands in front of you with a sullen smile, holding your waist so delicately you couldn’t help but chuckle.
your hands reach for his cheeks, going on your tippy toes to give him a kiss on the lips. once you pull away, he leans forward trying to catch your lips again. you giggle into the kiss, wrapping your arms around the taller man’s neck.
“hey, don’t be too sad. i’ll be back before you know it.” he sighs, a really deep and heavy one. “i had this whole day planned out..” he hugs your waist and buries his face into your shoulder—you had him in an absolute chokehold.
“i know, baby.. i promise i’ll take down those curses and yell the fact that i have a husband to go home to!” he couldn’t help but chuckle at that. he finally pulls back, but still doesn’t let go of your hands.
“stay safe.” you smile, leaning in to give him one last kiss. once you were out the door, he goes back to your shared bed and sobs into his pillow. (he’ll never admit that to you)
—
whilst you were out being badass and fighting curses, nanami on the other hand spent the day cleaning the house and preparing the bedroom. he was glad you told him about your unavailability on valentines day a week before as it gave him time to buy necessities for an even better place to come home to.
he’s got everything prepared: balloons, roses, candles, and the whole bunch of gifts he bought last month in secret! he sets the bedroom up, lighting the candles, sprinkling the rose petals everywhere, blowing up the balloons and having the basket of gifts in the middle of the bed and his handwritten letter within it.
once you got home, you noticed your husband’s lack of response to your holler. you roam around the living room and the kitchen confused as to why the lights were off, until you reached the bedroom to a nanami kento wearing a bathrobe and the whole room decked out in loving tones. you smiled widely at your husband’s antics, totally not expecting the whole shebang. he stands up and walks over to you, taking your hands in his.
“kento, this is.. you didn’t have to..” you didn’t even realise tear drops falling down your cheeks until he reached out and wiped them away. “of course i had to. you’re my wife,” he holds your face in his palms, placing a kiss on your lips.
he lead you to the bed, encouraging you to look through the basket of gifts. it was all filled with stuff you recently talked about, from trinkets to expensive items—small objects but meaningful ones. with a loving letter to top it all off, and you swear you’re the luckiest woman in the world.
you hug him tightly and hold his face to kiss his lips. “i love you” he says. “hold that thought,” he looks at you confused as you scramble to your walk in closet, heading to the corner and taking out a small box.
“i have a gift for you too.” nanami raises his eyebrow, taking the small box in his hands. you look at him with an excited look, and he couldn’t help but chuckle. once he opened it, he felt his heart practically leap with joy.
a positive pregnancy test.
nanami looks at you, his eyes wide and a smile creeping up his lips. “honey, you’re..” you practically scream the obvious: “we’re having a baby!”
nanami puts the box aside and hugs you, tears spilling out of his eyes. “this.. is the best gift i’ve ever received. you’re going to be an amazing mother.” you pull back and smile at him, “and you’ll be an amazing dad.”
he caresses your cheek, looking into you with eyes that hold the galaxy. “that means no more going on missions, okay?” you giggle, “i’ll be fine for a few more weeks..” his eyebrows furrow and his lips pout, “no. absolutely not.” you shake your head and smile, finally giving into his request.
you both lay on the bed with his arms wrapped around your torso as you sink your face his chest. he cradles your head and kisses your forehead, “i love you, honey. happy valentines day.”
another year of being alone on valentines day but hey at least i got tumblr to keep me company🫶
